life purpose collage

Good morning!  I've got a whole bunch of projects in progress right now, nothing yet to show, so today I just wanted to do a quick journal spread, just to quickly get in and out and actually finish something.  So here goes, something I call my "life purpose" collage:

Just a few random pictures that jumped out at me as reminders of what I feel my heart's purpose, its mission is on this earth.

Speaking of the earth, I painted a blue, green and white circle to depict the earth and glued it down underneath these other images, though you can't really see it anymore.

So yeah, God's call to missions, feeding the hungry, schooling the unschooled, loving the needy, and celebrating Jesus with them in their home culture.  I feel like I was born with a love and adaptability to other cultures and peoples, love finding the common bonds and universal language of warmth and friendship.  Someday I want to live that out by living in a foreign country where I can minister among them while living among them.  Sure, there are a million ways to minister Christ's love to the people right here in the U.S., but somehow I just have this longing to take it overseas.  Live a simpler life.  Learn from people who get by on less, and still be able to share my own abundance with them, my time, my gifts, the love of the Lord.

I have this little quote clipped above my work table:
"Look for the dream that keeps coming back.  It is your destiny."
                                      Love it.

That, and I also love my kids' art tacked up on the other side of me.
My little dabs of inspiration.  Keeps me going.   Never give up on your dreams.

fun with comics

Good morning!  aaaand it's good to be back.  been sick these past few days, not just a tiny sniffle but a slam-bam feverish blast to the couch for a long round of coughing, sneezing, headaches, nausea and just wanting to DIEEEEEEEE!!!!

but...i started to perk up yesterday, and what i did first, like i usually do when i first start coming alive from the dead of a flu, is...i start rummaging through my old craft supplies, my stash, my horrific mound of creative, colorful, quirky bits of this and that which may one day win me a free spot on a Hoarders Episode...and i found, in my wonderful section of vintage ephemera...this old romance comic from the 60's, which i bought on eBay years ago: Heart Throbs!

I love these old comics, the artwork, the drama, the retro groovy fashions...so i decided to have a little fun.  Put together this page in my art journal.

My process:

Painted background neon green, added retro-ish stamps in purple and pink.
Photocopied comic image in black & white, colored with watercolor pencils.
Glued images to page.  Added handwritten sentiment on white speech bubble.
Doodled with thin black marker.  that's about it.

This was fun.  perhaps a little too fun.  Because right in the middle of it, i got so excited i went on eBay and bidded on and won a whole LOT of about 7 more of these vintage comics! (impulsive much?) oh dear.  i'd better have lots more creative ideas up my sleeve for how to use up these puppies...or i'm going to really have something to share on that next Hoarders episode!

Stay tuned!!! (here on this blog, i mean!)
I've been getting my hands nice & messy painting and gluing all kinds of stuff lately, so hopefully                                                 i'll be posting more of it here, too.

                                                           Stay healthy, y'all!!

walk in the park

My latest collage painting:  walk in the park.  Started with a slab of old cardboard. Glued on scraps of vintage book pages, scrapbook paper, added acrylic paint, charcoal pencil, stamps, ink, magazine cutout images, Sharpie markers.
